User Reviews
Ok, for all DSi Fans this piece of H/W is truly another experience to behold.
It not only the screen size, also they enhanced the sound system.
Size is not that Large it still can fit in any of your pockets. -- Even though 3DS is on the way this one is a must
I've owned the original "phat" DS, I still own the DS Lite (even the great gold Zelda edition) and I prefer playing the DSi XL now whenever possible. I sold my old DSi to get the DSi XL and I'm very happy I did. Besides the extra screen real estate of the XL, the battery life of the DSi was noticeably less compared to the DSi XL. The bigger screens of the XL are excellent--yes they do slightly render graphics a bit softer than the DS Lite. If you compare the welcome screen text on the DS Lite to the DSi XL, the DS Lite text is sharp as a tack, whereas it is slightly, slightly blurred on the XL. Being a home theater buff I'm a stickler for visuals presented in the best way possible, but the slightly softer, or in some cases slightly more blocky graphics (I emphasize slightly) of the larger DSi XL screens are not off-putting in the least. I greatly prefer to play games on my DSi XL unless:
A) I want extreme portability, the DSi XL is much larger than the DSi or DS Lite in terms of fitting in your pocket.
B) I want GBA support, like the DSi, the DSi XL sadly loses the GBA slot for an extra camera--I really hardly ever use even one of the cameras.

THE MOST AWESOME THING EVER!!!! i love this thing i take it everywhere i go. not like i didnt take my ds everywhere but this thing goes even more places. cause i dont have to bring games with me cause it has them downloaded on them. or i can download some if i want to buy nintendo points which i havent yet...but maybe will one day...we'll see... but anyway the dsixl is fantastic.... -- LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nintendo DS resolution is only 256x192. this is extremely low by today's standards, even for a handheld device. the DSi XL has much bigger screens but the resolution remains the same, resulting in blocky images on the screen. it is very noticable, and i'm surprised more people have not commented on it. also the cameras are very low quality by today's standards. it's very likely your cell phone has a much better camera.
it seems nintendo opts for older technology with their hardware because it is less expensive and they want to keep their profit margins high. whereas sony and even microsoft will opt for more cutting edge technology that is more expensive. sony and microsoft even seem willing to sell their hardware at a loss to make their hardware reasonably powerful. nintendo is not willing to do this and as a result their hardware (DS and wii) are less powerful and frankly use obsolete technology. -- bigger screen makes the low resolution more noticable
My 9 year old son received this for his birthday and he hasn't looked back at his regular sized DS. He loves the larger screens and has no complaints about it being heavy. -- My son loves it
